Throughout my career as an OT, I have been working with clients to manage their pain. My background includes extensive experience in ergonomics, work injury rehabilitation, and structured multidisciplinary pain management programs. I regularly address lifestyle factors, health behaviors, and physical and emotional factors that impact pain for my clients.
Pain (especially chronic pain) is a complex issue and helping a client learn to manage it in a healthy way requires a holistic, multi-faceted approach. My specialized professional experience and ongoing training provides me with a unique, client-centered approach that incorporates lifestyle factors, health behaviors, and ergonomics to help people return to the activities in their life that are fulfilling, meaningful, and health promoting.
Each client’s pain management treatment plan comes after a comprehensive evaluation, is developed in collaboration with the client and his or her health care team, and is specific to the lifestyle and health behavior changes that are meaningful to him or her.
The treatment plan may focus on a combination of the following lifestyle factors:
- Ergonomics (for work or home)
- Nutrition
- Exercise
- Weight management
- Stress management
- Sleep
- Life balance
- Time management
- Injury prevention and body mechanics
- Related chronic disease management (diabetes, heart disease, etc.)
- Emotional health factors that are acting as barriers to successfully meeting health goals
